THE FIRST 5

The First 5 are warm-ups that stimulate the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Preparing and priming your body for the work ahead or as a way to reset body and mind. This specific set of movements are a quick and effective way to stimulate and balance the prana in the body.

KALARI SYURA NAMASKAR

Kalari’s Sun Salutation is more challenging than the classical Hatha Yoga version. It opens and stimulates the whole body increasing prana and vitality with a emphasis on hip and spinal strength and mobility. A warm-up and primary practice in one!

LOHARS

Lohars are calisthenic movements, that go beyond push-ups and squats. Warm-up, strengthen, open and balance your body. Movements are organized and performed in specific sequences that encompass the whole body in an optimal way. Do them as a warm up or at high intensity.

VANDANAM

Meditative, Focused and Grounding.
The Vandanam is the first long body form a student learns when practicing the Northern style of kalaripayattu. This salutation form moves through a series of linked animal postures; similar to a vinyasa flow. When memorized the Vandanam becomes a powerful moving meditation. 

LEG SWINGS

Leg Swings cultivate balance, flexibility, core integration and focus. With repetition a toroidal loop is circulated through the body from the tips of your toes, finger tips and the crown of your head encouraging the circulation of prana. It’s been described as a moving pranyama. 

TRATAKA MEDITATION

Trataka is an ancient meditation technique that can be used at the beginning and end of your practice. A fire gazing meditation to purify the body and focus the mind. In the trataka meditation we will guide you through specific breathing and meditation techniques. Trataka is said to purify and stoke the fire element in the body; the eyes and liver.

Animal postures increase the flow of prana and power in the body helping one harness greater stamina strength and flexibility.
